What is a child psychologist and what do they treat? At HPA/LiveWell, our psychologists treat a variety of disorders in children and adolescents.
A child psychologist is a doctoral-level therapist trained to help children and adolescents manage stressors and make behavioral changes. Child psychologists diagnose and treat a broad range of psychiatric conditions in both children and adolescents.
At HPA/LiveWell, our child psychologists treat a variety of disorders in children and adolescents, including the following:
- Anxiety disorders
- Mood disorders
- ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
- Pediatric DSM-V diagnoses
The treatment methods used by the child psychologists at HPA/LiveWell
Our child psychologists use many empirically supported therapies to treat children and adolescents. These methods – supported by medical evidence and research − include cognitive behavior therapy in both individual and group settings. Cognitive behavioral therapy addresses the way someone perceives himself or herself – and the world – and how that perception affects behavior. Plus, some therapists use play therapy as an intervention for some children.
